Jefferson County voters are finding their November ballots in the mail this week, with Election Day set for Tuesday, Nov. 3. The ballot includes several competitive local races — from an open Madras mayoral contest to a county jail levy renewal — as well as uncontested races for county assessor, clerk, and treasurer.

Madras Mayor: Two Candidates for an Open Seat

The most closely watched race may be the Madras mayoral contest. Incumbent Mayor Mike Lepin is not seeking re-election after years in the role, leaving the seat open. Two candidates are vying to lead the city: Travis Montgomery and Jennifer Townsend.

Both candidates appeared at a community forum in October that focused on staffing challenges, city finances, and economic development. Voters polled ahead of the election have identified the local economy as their top concern.

Six Candidates for Three Council Seats

Three openings on the Madras City Council — including two seats that were recently filled by appointment — are now up for election. Six candidates have filed for those permanent positions: Tony Chard, Maryfrances Purschwitz, Tanya Murren, Kaitlyn Lynch, Bill Robathan, and Eric Timmerman. Voters will select three.

County Sheriff Race and Jail Levy

Jefferson County voters will also weigh in on the county sheriff race, where incumbent Sheriff Jason Pollock faces challenger Tyler Anderson. Both candidates have outlined their public safety priorities for Jefferson County in recent public forums.

The ballot also includes a potential renewal of the Jefferson County jail levy, a key funding mechanism for the county detention facility. Details on the levy terms are included in the full voter guide.
