Jefferson County Fire and EMS crews came to the rescue Friday when two dogs became trapped in a pond and couldn't get out on their own — a feel-good call to wrap up a busy fire season week.

The Warm Springs Police Department has temporarily contracted with Frontier Regional 911 to handle all overnight emergency dispatch, ensuring uninterrupted emergency response for Reservation residents.

The Round Butte Fire that ignited August 1 and burned more than 1,200 acres in Jefferson County — triggering Level 3 evacuations and days of choking smoke — is now largely contained. But for residents who evacuated and ranchers who lost fencing and grazing land, the recovery work is just beginning.
