October is arriving with a full social calendar in Jefferson County. Two community events kick off the month this week — one downtown tonight, and one on the land that helped shape the county's agricultural identity.

Sip & Shop Tonight in Downtown Madras

Tonight, Thursday, October 1, Downtown Madras hosts its seasonal Sip & Shop event from 5 to 7 p.m. The evening gathering invites residents to stroll the downtown corridor, visit local shops, and support Madras businesses as the autumn season officially gets underway.

Expect pop-up vendors, special in-store sales, unique activities, and a festive atmosphere to mark the turn of the season. It's a chance to see what's new in the downtown retail scene and connect with neighbors before the holiday shopping season ramps up.

Participating businesses and vendors are scattered throughout the downtown core. Attendees are encouraged to walk the district and check in at multiple stops throughout the evening.

Cyrus Historic Orchard Ribbon Cutting Friday

On Friday, October 2, the community is invited to a noon ribbon cutting at the Cyrus Historic Orchard to celebrate the installation of new interpretive signs at both the McCoin and Cyrus Historic Orchards.

The signs tell the story of Central Oregon's pioneer fruit trees — some of the earliest cultivated orchards in the region — and the ongoing effort to document and preserve them. These orchards represent a living piece of Jefferson County's agricultural and settlement history, and the new signage will help residents and visitors understand their significance for generations to come.

The event is open to the public and expected to draw history enthusiasts, agricultural advocates, and community members interested in preserving the county's heritage landscapes.

A Season of Community

The two events reflect a broader tradition of community gathering that defines Jefferson County's fall calendar. As harvest winds down and temperatures cool, local organizations and businesses routinely find ways to bring people together — from agricultural fairs to school events to holiday markets.
