Jefferson County Public Health is bringing flu and COVID-19 vaccines directly to the Crooked River Ranch community next week, hosting a drive-through clinic at the local fire hall on Thursday, October 22.
The clinic runs from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Crooked River Ranch Fire Hall on SW Shad Road in Terrebonne. No appointment is required. Public Health staff will offer three vaccine options at the event:
- Standard flu vaccine — recommended for all adults and children 6 months and older
- High-dose flu vaccine — specifically recommended for adults 65 and older, providing a stronger immune response
- Moderna COVID-19 vaccine — the updated 2026 formulation targeting currently circulating variants
Close to Home for Ranch Residents
Crooked River Ranch is one of Jefferson County's largest unincorporated communities, with several thousand residents spread across the canyon-edged development west of Terrebonne. Getting to Madras for routine health services can mean a significant drive, particularly for older residents or those without reliable transportation.
By setting up at the Ranch fire hall, Jefferson County Public Health is removing that barrier — making it easy for residents to get vaccinated without leaving the community.
Why October Timing Matters
Public health officials recommend getting a flu shot before the end of October, when flu activity typically begins to increase through the fall and winter months. Getting vaccinated now gives the immune system time to build protection before peak flu season arrives.
The high-dose flu vaccine available at this clinic is particularly relevant for Crooked River Ranch, which has a significant population of older adults. Studies have shown the high-dose formulation provides better protection against serious flu complications — including hospitalization — in adults 65 and older compared to standard-dose vaccines.
Insurance and Cost
Residents are encouraged to bring an insurance card if they have one. Medicare and most private insurance plans cover both flu and COVID vaccines at no cost to the patient. Vaccines will be available to all residents regardless of insurance status.
