Week 6 of the Oregon high school football season delivered a tough road result for Madras and a dominant home performance for Culver on Saturday, October 3.
White Buffalos Shutout in Klamath Falls
The Madras White Buffalos (1-4) traveled to Klamath Falls to face the undefeated Klamath Union Pelicans (5-0) and came away on the short end of a 35-0 final. The Pelicans, one of the top teams in 3A Special District 3, were simply too much for a young Madras squad still searching for consistency on both sides of the ball.
The loss drops Madras to 1-4 on the season. After picking up their first win of the year the week before, the White Buffalos couldn't carry that momentum into hostile territory. Klamath Union entered the game ranked among the best in the classification and played like it, keeping Madras scoreless through four quarters.
The schedule ahead will offer the Buffalos opportunities to right the ship within district play. Head coach and players will look to regroup heading into next week's home action.
Culver Bulldogs Roll to 5-0, Give Up Points for First Time
Down the road in Culver, the Bulldogs (5-0) extended their perfect start to the season with a commanding 40-14 victory over Lost River in 2A nine-man action. While Lost River managed to put 14 points on the board — the first points Culver has surrendered all season — the Bulldogs' offense was firing on all cylinders.
Through their first four games in September, Culver had not allowed a single point, an extraordinary defensive performance in any classification. Saturday's game showed the rest of the district that while the Bulldogs can be scored on, their offense is equally capable of burying opponents.
The 40-14 final was never really in doubt, and Culver's unbeaten record keeps them firmly in contention for a deep postseason run in 2A nine-man football.
