The Jefferson County Event Complex and Fairgrounds is heading into the summer season with a financial boost, having recently secured more than $62,000 in new grant funding alongside the prospect of significant ongoing state support.

The largest of the new grants — $48,000 from the Visit Central Oregon Future Fund — will support the complex's Infrastructure Improvement Project. The grant is part of a broader round of regional tourism investments that totaled $300,000 across 12 Central Oregon projects. As part of the award, the Event Complex will also expand its Cowdeo youth rodeo programming and make improvements to the Corwin Arena.

A second grant, totaling more than $14,000, rounds out the $62,000-plus package announced this month.

Lottery Funding Adds Long-Term Support

Beyond the grants, the Event Complex is expecting to benefit from new state legislation that increases lottery funding to county fairgrounds across Oregon. After years of advocacy by fair operators statewide, the new law is expected to deliver roughly $150,000 annually to the Jefferson County facility — a significant and recurring source of revenue that could help sustain operations and fund further improvements over time.

A Regional Hub for Agriculture and Community

The Jefferson County Event Complex serves as a hub for agricultural events, 4-H, rodeo programming, and community gatherings across the region. Events at the complex draw participants from Madras, Culver, Metolius, Warm Springs, Crooked River Ranch, and beyond.

The combination of the new infrastructure grants and increased lottery funding marks one of the stronger stretches of investment the facility has seen in recent years, and comes as Jefferson County's broader economic indicators have also been improving — the county recently moved from the most economically distressed ranking in the state to eighth.
