Juneteenth — the federal and Oregon state holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans — falls on Thursday, June 19, 2026. Residents should plan ahead, as a number of offices and services in Jefferson County and on the Warm Springs Reservation will be closed or operating at reduced capacity.
What's Closed Thursday
- OSU Extension Service – Warm Springs: Closed June 19 in observance of Juneteenth. The office, located at 1110 Wasco St. in Warm Springs, provides agricultural, nutrition, and community health extension services to reservation residents.
- Warm Springs tribal departments: Various tribal government offices are expected to be closed. The KWSO community calendar notes closures at tribal recreational facilities for the Juneteenth holiday.
- Federal and state offices: All federally recognized offices will be closed. This includes BIA offices, Social Security, and USDA service centers. State of Oregon offices observing the holiday will also be closed.

About Juneteenth
Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the emancipation of enslaved people — more than two months after the end of the Civil War. Congress designated it a federal holiday in 2021. Oregon recognizes it as a state holiday as well.
In the context of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, acknowledging Juneteenth reflects the tribes' broader commitment to solidarity with communities who have faced systemic oppression and dispossession — a history the tribes know intimately.
