Jefferson County pet owners will have a rare opportunity to access affordable spay and neuter services close to home later this month, when Oregon Outback Humane hosts a two-day clinic at the Jefferson County Event Complex in Madras.

The clinic runs Saturday and Sunday, October 24 and 25. Services are available for cats and dogs at rates well below typical veterinary pricing:

  • Cats: $100
  • Dogs: $175

Appointments are required. To schedule your pet, email oregonoutbackhumane@gmail.com as soon as possible — spots fill quickly at these events.

Why This Clinic Matters for Jefferson County

Access to affordable veterinary care has long been a challenge for rural Oregon communities. Jefferson County residents typically must drive to Bend or Redmond for specialized services — a round trip that can top 100 miles and several hours. That barrier leads many pet owners to delay or forgo preventive care entirely.

Spay and neuter programs carry community-wide benefits beyond individual pets. They reduce the local stray and shelter animal population, lower intake rates at county animal control facilities, and decrease the number of animals that must be euthanized due to overcrowding. Local animal welfare advocates have long called for more accessible low-cost clinics in Jefferson County.

About Oregon Outback Humane

Oregon Outback Humane is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing low-cost veterinary services and animal welfare resources to underserved rural communities across Central and Eastern Oregon. The organization operates mobile and pop-up clinics throughout the region, often targeting areas with the greatest gaps in affordable veterinary access.
