One of Central Oregon's most celebrated cultural events is just two weeks away. The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs will host Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty Days from June 26 through 28, 2026 — and this year's traditional parade is shining a special spotlight on one of the most enduring symbols of Tribal culture: the horse.
Parade Theme: 'Honoring the Horses'
The 2026 Pi-Ume-Sha Traditional Parade theme is "Honoring the Horses," a deliberate celebration of the deep bond between the Warm Springs, Wasco, and Paiute peoples and the animals that have shaped their history, culture, and identity for generations.
Organizers are encouraging community members to participate by bringing out their horses — whether traditional, ranch, rodeo, family, or therapy horses — dressed in their finest regalia, sacred paint designs, or cowboy gear.
"Horses have always been a central part of the people's way of life, culture, healing, and identity," organizers said in a statement. "This year is all about honoring that strength, beauty, spirit, and connection."
The parade will also feature traditional walkers and floats with divisions for adults, teens, and youth. The 2026 Grand Marshals will be representatives from the Traditional Horses and the Rodeo Committee.
