The Plateau Travel Plaza in Madras is preparing to reopen after an extended remodeling and expansion project, and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs are looking for something to fill the walls: tribal art, traditional artifacts, and family keepsakes that tell the story of the people who own the place.
With a soft reopening targeted for June 15 and a grand opening celebration planned for July 11, tribal leadership is inviting enrolled members to submit items for display inside the expanded facility. The deadline to submit is Wednesday, June 3, at 2:00 p.m.
What They Are Looking For
All types of art, craft, and family keepsakes may be submitted for display consideration, including:
- Huckleberry baskets and other traditional weavings
- Beadwork
- Carvings and sculpture
- Other cultural or family artifacts with historical or personal significance
Organizers say there is particular interest in pieces that have not previously been on public display. Each submission must be accompanied by a description or story behind the piece, including the significance of the materials used.
Selected items will be prominently displayed at the Plateau Travel Plaza for a period of three to six months. Artists and families whose work is selected will receive compensation based on the value of the submitted piece.
How to Submit
The contact person for submissions is Margie Tuckta in the Gaming HR Department. To submit, email a photo of the item along with a description or story to mtuckta@indianheadgaming.com. For more information, call 541-460-7714. The submission deadline is June 3, 2026, by 2:00 p.m.
About the Plateau Travel Plaza
The Plateau Travel Plaza is a full-service travel center on the north end of Madras at 215 NW Cherry Lane, owned and operated by the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs through Warm Springs Casino Enterprises. The facility serves as a major fuel, food, and services stop for long-haul truckers and travelers on Highway 26 and Highway 97, and has long been a significant economic asset for the Tribes.
The expansion and remodeling project has kept the Plaza closed or partially operational for an extended period. According to reports presented at Tuesday's General Council meeting, the soft reopening is set for June 15, with a full grand opening celebration on July 11.
The reopening adds a visible and economic landmark back to the Madras commercial landscape at a moment when the Tribes are also navigating new leadership, ongoing drought pressures, and the broader recovery of their hospitality enterprises including Kah-Nee-Ta Hot Springs Resort and Indian Head Casino.
