Jefferson County is holding a public certification of its ballot tally machine today, Wednesday, June 10, at the Jefferson County Annex conference room in Madras.
The certification is part of the standard post-election audit process required under Oregon election law. Members of the public are welcome to observe the procedure, which verifies that the county's ballot-counting equipment is functioning accurately and that vote tallies are consistent.
What Is a Tally Machine Certification?
Oregon counties are required to publicly certify their ballot tabulation equipment both before and after each election. The certification involves running test ballots through the machines and confirming the output matches known results — a transparency measure designed to build public confidence in the accuracy of election counts.
Any Jefferson County resident is entitled to attend and observe the process. No registration is required.
Timeline to Official Results
Today's certification is one step in the post-election process. Jefferson County has until June 15 to prepare and deliver abstracts of votes to state elections officials. The Oregon Secretary of State's office has set June 25, 2026 as the deadline for official statewide certification of primary election results.
Until that date, all results — including the commissioner and sheriff races decided in the May 19 primary — remain unofficial.
