Investigators have identified human remains discovered on the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation as those of Tyler Kalama, 13, a teenager who had been missing from the community for more than six months.
The Warm Springs Police Department announced the identification on Friday, October 3. Officers and federal agents had found the remains on September 19 near the Indian Health Services building on the reservation. The announcement came after forensic identification was completed.
A Community Had Been Searching
Tyler was first reported missing in early March 2026. In a March 2 Facebook post, the Warm Springs Police Department had asked the public for help locating him, describing him at the time as a runaway. The news of his death has been met with grief across the Warm Springs community and beyond.
"The Warm Springs Police Department and the FBI extend their deepest condolences to Tyler's family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time," the department said in a Friday news release. "We recognize the profound impact this news has on those who knew and cared for Tyler, and we ask that their privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult period."
Investigation Continues
Authorities have not released details about the cause or circumstances of Tyler's death. The Warm Springs Police Department said investigators will continue to examine the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death.
Anyone with information that could assist investigators is urged to contact the Warm Springs Police Department or the FBI. Authorities emphasized that even information that may seem minor or insignificant could prove valuable to the ongoing investigation.
