The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs issued a statement Thursday after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents stopped on reservation lands the morning of Wednesday, July 23. The tribal government confirmed that Tribal Police made contact with the federal agents during the incident and that no tribal members were taken into federal custody.

According to the tribal statement, the federal agents and individuals with them were passing through reservation lands and had stopped for a restroom break at a rest stop. The tribe stated it recognizes the jurisdiction of federal authorities while emphasizing that its Police Department and staff do not actively participate in federal immigration enforcement.

In its public statement, the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs affirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of its community members and described the reservation as a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for all tribal membership.

The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation covers approximately 640,000 acres in north-central Oregon, encompassing the communities of Warm Springs, Simnasho, and Seekseequa. The reservation is home to the Warm Springs, Wasco, and Paiute peoples.
