Jefferson County residents and farmers still dealing with the aftermath of this summer's wildfires will have a one-stop opportunity to connect with support services next week, when a free Wildfire Recovery Multi-Agency Resource Event comes to Madras.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Central Oregon Agricultural Research and Extension Center, located at 850 NW Dogwood Lane in Madras. Lunch will be provided at no charge, and residents from surrounding communities are welcome to attend.

Dozens of Agencies Under One Roof

Organizers say the goal is to bring together representatives from across government and the nonprofit sector so that fire-affected residents can ask questions, explore recovery programs, understand insurance options, and connect directly with services — all in a single afternoon without navigating multiple offices and appointments on their own.

Participating agencies include:

  • Oregon State University Extension Service
  • USDA Farm Service Agency
  • Natural Resources Conservation Service
  • Oregon Department of Forestry
  • Oregon Department of Human Services
  • Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District
  • Middle Deschutes Watershed Council
  • Oregon State Fire Marshal
  • Oregon Department of Financial Regulation
  • Agristress Helpline
  • Hope Animal-Assisted Crisis Response

A Tough Fire Season Behind Them

Jefferson County was hit hard by multiple large fires during the 2026 season. The Bench Fire drew hundreds of firefighters to the Madras area during peak summer conditions, while the Ten Mile Fire burned in rugged terrain northeast of town. Recovery for affected ranchers, farmers, and homeowners has been ongoing for months.

The USDA Farm Service Agency and Natural Resources Conservation Service will be on hand to discuss programs specifically addressing agricultural losses, including emergency loans, conservation cost-share programs, and technical assistance for land rehabilitation. The Agristress Helpline will also be present, offering confidential support for farm families dealing with the financial and emotional strain that often follows a major fire season.
