Madras and Jefferson County are going all-in for Independence Day 2026, marking not just the Fourth of July but the 250th anniversary of the United States with a day packed full of community traditions — from a sunrise run to a late-night fireworks show.

This year's theme, "Red, White and Blue — 250 Years With You," was chosen to reflect both the holiday and the country's milestone birthday.

"I think for us, it's really just about being together with family and friends," said Debbie Taylor, executive director of the Madras/Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. "When we looked at what our theme would be for this year, we decided it was going to be red, white and blue 250 years with you. And that's really what it is, just to have that time for people to come together, enjoy those traditional events that they have. It's for everyone just to be together and to celebrate."

Full Schedule of Events

  • Morning: Todd Beamer Memorial Run kicks off early for those looking to start the day on their feet
  • Mid-morning: Community breakfast — a Jefferson County tradition
  • Parade: Madras' beloved Fourth of July parade rolls through downtown, one of the most anticipated events of the summer
  • Afternoon: Festival activities at Sahalee Park, including local food vendors and live music. Don't miss the splash park for the kids.
  • Evening: The Madras Downtown Association is mixing Fourth of July spirit with a Roaring 20s twist — come dressed in vintage glam, sparkles, or festive gear for a costume contest
  • 10:00 p.m.: Grand fireworks display, shot from Madras High School and visible from nearly anywhere in Madras. Spectators are welcome to watch from the school's perimeter. The show is paid for by community donations to Sparklers 501(c)(3) — contact Mike Ahern at 541-420-9000 for information.

Important Reminder: No Fireworks on Federal or State Lands

While the city's professional fireworks show is a safe and legal way to celebrate, personal fireworks remain strictly prohibited on all federal lands and are not permitted inside The Cove Palisades State Park. Violators can face heavy fines and be held liable for any wildfire suppression costs. See our separate fire safety story for full details on restrictions across Jefferson County this holiday weekend.

Whatever you're doing today — parade-watching, splashing at Sahalee, or craning your neck toward the night sky — Happy Fourth of July from your neighbors at the Madras Bulletin.
