November is shaping up to be a busy month for Jefferson County community events, with several gatherings over the next two weeks reflecting the county's diverse character — from its deep tribal roots to its rodeo heritage and business community.
Native Market Returns to St. Charles Madras on Veterans Day
One of the month's highlights is the Native Market and Community Meal, set for Wednesday, Nov. 11 — Veterans Day — from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Charles Madras. The market will be located inside the main entrance and will feature local vendors offering jewelry, traditional crafts, and other handmade items. A community meal will be served alongside the market.
The event honors the ties between St. Charles Madras, the broader Madras community, and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, whose reservation borders Jefferson County to the west. The Veterans Day timing adds additional meaning, as tribal members have historically served in the U.S. military at notably high rates. The public is welcome to attend and shop.
Jefferson County Queen Tryouts at Event Complex
Aspiring royalty will have their moment in the spotlight Saturday, Nov. 7, when Jefferson County Queen Tryouts and Crowning take place at the Jefferson County Event Complex. The annual tradition is a centerpiece of the county's rodeo culture, with the newly crowned queen going on to represent Jefferson County at events, parades, and rodeos throughout the coming year.
Chamber Coffee and Connection
The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce hosts its monthly Coffee and Connection networking event on Wednesday, Nov. 11. The gathering is open to chamber members and prospective members looking to connect with other local business owners and professionals in a relaxed setting. Registration is available through the chamber's website at jeffersoncountychamber.com.
Wildfire Recovery Resource Fair — Mark Your Calendar
Also coming up: a free Wildfire Recovery Multi-Agency Resource Event on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Central Oregon Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Madras. The event brings state and federal agencies together for fire-affected residents and farmers. See the related story in today's edition for full details.
Residents are encouraged to check the Madras Pioneer community calendar and the Jefferson County Chamber website for a complete listing of upcoming events throughout the month.
