The finish line is in sight. With district and state track and field championships scheduled for late May in Eugene, Jefferson County’s high school athletes are entering the final stretch of the 2026 outdoor season.
Both Madras High School and Culver High School have fielded competitive rosters this spring, with athletes building toward championship form in events ranging from sprints and distance races to field events like shot put, discus, and high jump.
Culver in the Spotlight
Culver has been a name to watch in Central Oregon track and field in recent years. Kaydon Haro, a Culver sprinter who competed in the 200 meters at the 2025 state championships in Eugene, returns as one of the area’s most closely followed athletes heading into the postseason.
The Bulldogs compete in a smaller classification, giving them a realistic path to state medals — a goal that has energized the program and the community around it.
Madras White Buffaloes
Madras High School’s track and field program competes in the larger 4A classification, facing stiffer competition as the postseason unfolds. The White Buffaloes have athletes across multiple disciplines working to qualify for the district meet, which serves as the gateway to the OSAA state championships.
What’s Next
The OSAA district championships for Central Oregon schools are typically held in mid-to-late May, with qualifiers advancing to the state championships in Eugene. Athletes who finish in the top spots at districts in their events earn a trip to compete at Hayward Field, one of the premier track and field venues in the country.
The Madras Bulletin will have full coverage of Jefferson County athletes as the district and state meets unfold. Check back for results, standout performances, and athlete spotlights in the days ahead.
