Jefferson County has a new set of state champions. The Jefferson County Little League Senior Softball team has won the Oregon state title and earned a berth in the Senior Softball Regional Tournament in Missoula, Montana, scheduled for July 23–28.

The achievement is a significant milestone for Jefferson County youth athletics — and for the players, coaches, and families who put in the work to get there.

Oregon State Champions

The team earned the Oregon State Little League Senior Softball championship in tournament play earlier this month, besting teams from across the state to punch their ticket to regionals. The regional tournament in Missoula will pit Oregon's champions against top teams from other Western states, with the best advancing further.

"This is an incredible accomplishment and an amazing opportunity for these young athletes," the team's announcement noted, as reported by the Madras Pioneer. The chance to compete at a regional level in softball is rare for a community the size of Jefferson County, and local supporters have rallied behind the team ahead of their departure.

Community Steps Up for Fundraiser

To help offset the cost of travel to Montana, the community organized a fundraiser on Saturday, July 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the NAPA Auto Parts store in Madras. The event featured a car wash, barbecue, and raffle — drawing neighbors who came out to show their support for the team.

Travel expenses for youth sports tournaments can be significant, and the outpouring of community support reflects the deep connection Jefferson County residents have with their young athletes.

Regionals: July 23–28 in Missoula

The team heads to Missoula, Montana, this week for the regional competition. Residents and supporters are encouraged to follow the team's progress and cheer them on from home as they represent Jefferson County on the regional stage.

Fair Week Coincidence

The regional tournament overlaps with the Jefferson County Fair & Rodeo this week, making it a banner stretch for local sports and community events. Whether at the fairgrounds or tracking the softball team's results from Missoula, Jefferson County residents have plenty to celebrate this week.

The Madras Bulletin will follow the team's results in Missoula and report back with updates on their regional tournament run.
