Jefferson County is pulling out all the stops for the Fourth of July — and this year carries extra meaning as the nation marks its 250th anniversary. Whether you're in Madras, Culver, Metolius, or Crooked River Ranch, there's something happening close to home.

Madras: An All-American Day

The city of Madras hosts its traditional full-day celebration, centered at Sahalee Park. Events kick off early and run into the night:

  • 7 a.m. — Community breakfast hosted by the Madras Elks Lodge (BPOE)
  • 7 a.m. — Todd Beamer Memorial Run
  • 10 a.m. — Annual Fourth of July Parade through downtown
  • 11:14 a.m. — National Anthem and Flag Raising ceremony
  • 11 a.m.–2 p.m. — Live music by Infamous Soul and continued family festivities
  • 10 p.m. — Grand Fireworks Display at Madras High School

The Madras Downtown Association is also hosting a special evening event with a Roaring 20s glam theme — think sparkles, vintage style, and live music celebrating America's birthday with a little extra flair.

Crooked River Ranch: Barn Dance Under the Stars

Crooked River Ranch residents and guests are invited to the annual Fourth of July Barn Dance at Mac Park, 5195 Clubhouse Road. Social hour begins at 6 p.m., with the live band starting at 7 p.m. Food will be provided by Central Oregon Barbecue Company, and Black Goat Winery will be on hand. It's a community tradition that brings the Ranch together every summer.

Watch the Show — Not the Sparks

Jefferson County Fire & EMS is urging residents to keep fire safety front of mind this holiday. The county ranked among the top 50 most wildfire-impacted counties in the United States last year, and with record-low snowpack and a drought declaration already in effect, conditions remain extreme.

A burn ban has been in place since May 4. While a blanket fireworks ban is not currently in effect within city limits, fire officials are asking residents to use common sense: keep fireworks in open, clear areas at least 25–50 feet from people and structures, keep a water source handy, and fully soak all used devices before disposal.

"Taking these simple precautions can greatly reduce the risk of a wildfire threatening your neighborhood," said LeeAnn Bowman of Jefferson County Fire & EMS.

Fireworks are prohibited at The Cove Palisades State Park. The professional fireworks display at Madras High School remains the safest way to enjoy the show.

Keep It Safe, Keep It Local

This year's celebration is about more than just fireworks — it's a reminder of what makes Jefferson County a community worth celebrating. From the fields of Culver to the banks of the Crooked River, this county has a lot to be proud of on America's 250th.
