From the COCC Salmon Bake to a boat safety inspection to a pollinator nature program for kids, there’s plenty going on in Jefferson County this weekend — and most of it is free or low-cost.

The Central Oregon Community College Salmon Bake, a beloved tradition for more than 25 years, returns to the newly expanded Madras campus this Saturday, May 16. The free community event features traditional salmon, live music, dance performances, and a silent auction benefiting the First Nations Student Union scholarship fund.

The COCC Salmon Bake, a Native American feast and community celebration that has been a regional tradition for more than 25 years, takes place Saturday, May 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the newly expanded Madras campus — and it's free and open to the public.

The Madras High School Theatre Department is performing 'These Shining Lives,' the story of the Radium Girls, through May 16 at the Performing Arts Center. Two more performances remain: Thursday May 15 at 7 p.m. and Saturday May 16 at 2 p.m.

The Madras Saturday Market kicks off its 2026 season this Saturday, May 10, running every Saturday through September 5 at Sahalee Park. Expect local artisans, fresh baked goods, handmade products, and food vendors from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

May is packed with community events in Jefferson County, from the opening of the Madras Saturday Market to the beloved COCC Salmon Bake on May 16, MHS theatre performances, the Mayfaire Fantasy Market, the Oregon Junior High Spring Rodeo, a Wildfire Preparedness Fair, and the NASU Powwow.
