If you’ve been thinking about competing in the Jefferson County Cowdeo, today is your last chance to sign up.

Registration closes Sunday, September 20 for the 2026 Cowdeo, scheduled for Saturday, September 26 at the Jefferson County Event Complex in Madras. The fairgrounds are located at 430 SW Fairgrounds Road. For registration details, visit the event page at jeffersoncountyor.gov or call the Event Complex at (541) 325-5050.

A Jefferson County Fall Tradition

The Cowdeo is one of Jefferson County’s most distinctly local fall events — a community gathering that blends cattle work, horsemanship, and good-natured competition in a setting that reflects the county’s deep ranching roots. Held each September at the Bart Platt Event Complex, the Cowdeo draws competitors and spectators from across Central Oregon who come out to showcase livestock handling skills and enjoy a day at the fairgrounds.

The event is especially popular among the county’s agricultural community, offering a chance to stay connected to the working-ranch culture that has defined Jefferson County since its earliest days. Whether you’re a seasoned hand or a first-timer curious about what a “Cowdeo” actually involves, it’s a day worth making time for.

Spectators are welcome and admission details are available through the fairgrounds. The Jefferson County Event Complex — a 50-plus-acre facility with more than 100,000 square feet of buildings and barns — is well set up for a full day’s event.
